Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) is a quality assurance process that verifies whether a building’s external envelope will perform as designed.
It reviews thermal performance, airtightness, moisture and condensation risk, thermal bridging, façade detailing and construction quality from design through to delivery.
Put simply, BECx helps close the gap between what is designed on paper and what is actually built.

Why is BECx becoming more important?

A Building Envelope Commissioning Authority (BECxA) reviews, verifies and documents envelope performance against the project requirements. Where BECx forms part of a wider certification framework, such as LEED, the commissioning documentation can contribute to that certification process.
